Climate in Ethiopia

Sustainability & Legacy

Ethiopia's COP will walk the talk — a carbon-conscious conference and a lasting legacy for communities across the Horn of Africa.

Climate Change in Ethiopia

Ethiopia is highly vulnerable to climate change — droughts, floods, and shifting rainfall threaten agriculture that employs most of the population. Yet Ethiopia is also a leader in climate action: the Green Legacy Initiative has planted billions of trees, and the Climate Resilient Green Economy strategy targets net-zero by 2050.

Sustainable COP

Following international best practices, COP32 will publish a sustainability report covering:

  • Renewable-powered venue operations
  • Zero single-use plastics in Blue and Green Zones
  • Local sourcing for catering and materials
  • Carbon footprint measurement and offset programme
  • Community benefit projects in Addis Ababa and regional capitals

Legacy Projects

Conference infrastructure investments will leave permanent assets: improved public transport, urban green spaces, and digital climate education centres for Ethiopian schools.
